My name is Fabio Pansera,

I was born on the cold Sunday of January 26, 1992, in Giussano (in the province of Monza), raised in the heart of Brianza in the town of Seveso.

My city has always had (and always will have) a special place in my heart. It was in Seveso that I learned everything I know about the local Brianzola culture, and Lombard in general.

A place full of history, unfortunately also sad at times. People from Seveso are really proud, where fortitude and resilience were key characteristics after the environmental disaster of 1976.

I consider myself lucky to have been born and raised in Brianza, I have never been lacking for anything, indeed, up to the age of 16 I lived a fairly easy life. At the age of 16, I decided after several failed attempts to proudly (at least at the time) abandon the school path.

I was going to Primo Levi School in Seregno, with the specialization of Business Expert Correspondent in Foreign Languages. My problem has always been that I wanted to do something more inherent to what I liked.

Specifically photography and cinema, and since at the time there was no address available that strayed even remotely from these two interests, in the end I opted for languages, since they have always been a passion of mine. However, apart from the languages in which I had excellent grades, I was basically a total failure, on pretty much everything else.

So, I decided to retire and start working on the construction site with my father, who had a construction company at the time. Normally, the days started quite early, around 6 in the morning, closing at 6 in the evening when I was lucky; meanwhile I continued studying from home during my free time, first photography and in the following years videomaking.

That's where I learned the English language, since around 2007/2008 the only “courses” and “video tutorials” for what I wanted to become my full-time job were very few (seriously, something like 5-6 channels maximum) and they were all in super technical English.

Later I studied with one of the film directors and teachers Northern Italy has ever had, Marco Barbouth, Dean of the Institute for Cinema Le Due Città. In 2011, I tried for the first time to move to London and, after a big failure.

I return to Italy after just over a month with my tail between my legs. In 2014, I tried again, this time with more success as I was certainly more mature than the first time.

Like everyone I started as a dishwasher, ending up higher and higher, then finding work as a video editor and then starting to invoice by working on my own.

2016 took me on vacation to Ukraine for a series of coincidences which I will tell you about in one of my articles, where I met Maria, my future wife.

Then began a period of up and down between London and Kyiv, and then slowly rent an apartment and end up spending more time in Ukraine than in London.

After the 2016/2017 New Year spent in Italy, I officially moved to Ukraine, to Kyiv, where I still live permanently. For the rest, you have to read the articles because the story did not end here, on the contrary, it is only the beginning!

I currently live in the Ukrainian capital, Kyiv.

I moved on January 8, 2017, in the next articles I will specify under what circumstances and how I found myself living here.

This wants to be a bit of my diary and possibly a source of first-hand information for anyone wishing to travel or move to Ukraine.

I manage a small community both on Facebook and on Telegram, a safe and “clean” place where you can politely express your opinion and thoughts, ask for help from others, discuss characteristic Ukrainian things and compare yourself with expatriates, tourists or just curious.

You can join one of the two communities or even contact me here for collaborations, information, help, or to have a chat.
